Rare brown-beige fire bean with white-pink flowers and large seeds.
Georg von Martens described a very similar variety as "bicoloured fire bean" as early as 1869 in his work "The Garden Bean". Originally, the fire bean was at home in the cool humid and frost-free mountains of Costa Rica, Guatemala and Mexico. There the plant even overwinters and grows perennially. It was not until the 17th century that the fire bean reached Europe and was first cultivated as an ornamental plant. The seeds have a delicate and nutty taste and are suitable for preparing bean dishes such as sour beans, salads, soups and even desserts.
